Insurance


We accept most major insurances. Please contact our office for information on a specific medical plan.


Types of Appointments


WELL CARE APPOINTMENTS, sometimes referred to as Physicals or Routine Care appointments are prescheduled appointments for the purpose of assessing your child’s growth and development, providing anticipatory guidance, and administering recommended vaccinations. The providers at Dundalk Pediatric Associates utilize American Academy of Pediatric (AAP) guidelines in measuring your child’s progress and to identify any areas of concern that may require further evaluation and monitoring. These appointments are done according to a schedule recommended by the AAP: 9 visits in the first 2 years of life and annually thereafter. A typical appointment would include a physical exam of your child, an assessment of your child’s physical and social development, a determination of age appropriate behavior, and, if indicated, administration of immunizations. Sleep and dietary habits will also be addressed. Concerns about chronic issues might be addressed during a well care appointment, however an additional appointment is usually required to properly focus on evaluation and treatment of chronic conditions.
During a well care visit your physician may address concerns that you may bring or that he/she may discover which are outside the scope of a normal Well Care appointment (headaches, stomach aches, and/or acute issues such as ear aches, sore throats, etc.,). Alternatively, your physician may address a chronic condition that your child may have (ADHD, autism, constipation, etc.). In either case, there may be an additional charge to you in the form of a copay or a deductible depending on your insurance coverage since appropriate billing codes for these issues fall outside the scope of “well care” as defined by insurance companies. WELL CARE appointments can be scheduled up to 6 months in advance.

CHRONIC FOLLOW UP appointments are to re-assess the management of chronic conditions such as asthma, autism, constipation, allergies, eczema, diabetes, cerebral palsy, or behavioral issues. Your child may also see pediatric specialists who are co-managing these problems. These visits enable our physicians to stay up to date with your child’s care and to better assist with complications that may arise. Your physician will determine how often these follow up appointments should occur.


MEDICATION CHECK appointments are for the purpose of evaluating how your child is tolerating prescribed medications for, the effects it is having on school performance and/or behavior issues. MED CHECK appointments may be scheduled up to 6 months in advance.


ADD/ADHD evaluations are scheduled as a 45 minute appointment and your provider will have you and your child’s teachers complete Vanderbilt forms that will help with this assessment.


SICK VISIT appointments are for all other issues not listed above. These appointments are scheduled for acute illness or injury such as infection, injuries, sore throat, ear pain, and wheezing. We provide WALK IN hours daily from 9am-12:45pm and from 2pm to 4:45pm. We will try to accommodate all same day SICK VISIT appointments with your child’s PCP as schedules allow. SICK VISITS can also be made for less urgent chronic issues like headaches, stomachaches and other lingering aches and pains. We will try to accommodate appointments for these reasons at the earliest mutual time available with your child’s PCP.

Policies


No Show Policy


At Dundalk Pediatrics Associates, it is important to us that your time in our office is well spent. Therefore, if you have any change in your insurance coverage or personal information, then please arrive early for your appointment so that your information can be updated, and your visit can proceed in a timely manner. Also, please be aware that we require 24 hours notice of cancellation for routine check ups, pre-ops and consultation appointments. Any appointment missed(no showed) without prior notification will be assessed a $25 no show fee. We thank you for helping us to operate in an efficient manner.

 

Referrals/Prescription Refills


REFERRALS
When calling for referral requests, please have ready the name and specialty of the doctor you wish to see, your insurance information, and appointment date. Your referral will be processed within five (5) business days, so please allow us enough time to meet your request. You should also designate whether you wish your completed referral mailed to you or placed at the front desk for pick-up. We would also like to remind you that it is your responsibility to know your insurance company’s rules regarding the need for referrals for medical specialists, lab, or x-ray requests.


PRESCRIPTION REFILLS
We are usually able to send prescription refills electronically. To better ensure that your child’s prescription is filled correctly, we recommend you contact your pharmacy and ask them to send us an electronic refill request for each non controlled medication that your child needs. This reduces the risk of errors in getting your child the correct type and dosage of medicine. Please allow 48 business hours for refilling of existing prescriptions.


School and Camp Forms


Back-to-school is a busy time for requests to complete forms for school, daycare, fall sports, and college. Spring is a time when children are getting ready to go to summer camp. To help us better serve you during these busy times, please be aware of the following information:


We will not complete any form that does not have the parent section filled out. By signing the form, we are verifying that we have reviewed the information contained in the form and have done the appropriate medical examination and screening tests necessary to ensure that your child is cleared to safely participate in a specific area or activity. We cannot do this if we don’t have all of the necessary information.


Please allow 4 business days for completion of your forms. We are usually able to complete one routine form (e.g. Baltimore County Public School Form) at the time of your wellness visit. If you present forms at a sick visit, if you have multiple forms that require completion, or if there is more detailed information needed to complete your form, then you will have to leave your forms for later return.


There is a $2 fee associated with forms.  This covers the administrative time necessary for review of relevant information and completion of the form.


A wellness assessment may be required before some forms can be completed. In order to determine if your child is medically cleared to participate in camps or sports, it is recommended that s/he has an annual wellness assessment. Some entities may require an evaluation by a physician within 6 months of the start of an activity. We ask parents to please be aware of the requirements for their child’s specific activity and to plan a visit accordingly. You will need to have a wellness assessment in the 12 months prior to start of the activity, before we can complete a form asking for medical clearance for a physical activity. Please plan ahead so that you can have your wellness assessment with the physician of your choice.

 

After Hours Information

For life-threatening emergencies call 911 for an ambulance.  


For urgent but non life-threatening problems you may call the office at 410-284-1133 to obtain the on-call providers number during times that the office is closed.

Most problems can be handled over the phone with advise until the next working day. However, if the on-call provider determines that an emergency room visit is needed she will recommend and authorize the visit. Authorization by the primary care provider is required by most managed care insurance companies for reimbursement.


Please save your non-urgent, referral and prescription refill calls for regular office hours Monday – Friday.
